Chapter 82 - Small Talk
"Is everything alright?" Liam quipped in between when Leon was squeezing Ida\'s breast.
Leon pulled his hand pack and patted the kid\'s head before turning to Liam.
"Yeah. I was just… the kid is cute. I was wondering if he has a name or something," Leon answered Liam and turned to Ida.
"Uhh… no. I haven\'t named him yet," Ida replied.
She then checked her phone and said, "I have to go now."
After saying that, Ida left.
Liam turned to Leon and said, "What brings you here?"
"Anna told me you have been bugging her about me every day. She felt bullied by you. You shouldn\'t abuse your power like that, you know?" Leon remarked.
Of course, Leon was lying. He just wanted to make Liam feel a little guilty.
"She never told me something like that. I must apologize to her," Liam uttered in a low voice with a concerned look on his face.
"You probably shouldn\'t. She is already traumatized enough," Leon asserted. "It would be best if you don\'t ever meet her again."
"Well, I don\'t think I will." Liam placed the file on his table and said, "I am working on a new case, and it\'s personal now."
"Well, anyway." Leon rolled his eyes and said, "Why have you been bugging her about me? Do you need something from me?"
"Yes… actually…" Liam took out the keys to his locker from his pocket and tried to open the locker.
"Hmm? Why is it open? Liam wondered. "I am sure locked them…"
"I think you are overworking yourself," Leon remarked. "Maybe you should take a break."
"I wish I could…" Liam replied while looking into the files from the drawers.
Leon frowned his face and uttered inwardly: \'Stop… I am giving you one chance to live because Layla asked me to....\'
Liam took out a file from the drawer and handed it to Leon.
"What\'s this?" Leon asked and opened the file to see his photo and details.
"Uhh… well…" Liam scratched the back of his head and said, "How do I say this but…"
Liam scoffed softly and uttered, "You see, my brother\'s name was also Leon, and you kind of remind me of him."
"..."
"My brother and sister died around 11 years ago in the terrorist attack. And last month, the secret killer revealed that it was done by the president." Liam sighed and continued, "I used to think they died in the terrorist attack, but…"
Leon raised his brows and asked, "But?"
"Well…" Liam glanced around and said in a low voice, "I think that secret killer might be my brother."
"...!" Leon was surprised, but he didn\'t show his reaction. Instead, he raised his brows and asked, "What makes you think that?"
"Well, you see… my mother was a detective, and she was investigating the case of the president GG."
"...!" Leon was once again surprised, but this time, he couldn\'t hide his reaction.
\'Mother was a detective? Why wasn\'t I aware of that?\' Leon asked himself. He frowned his face and uttered inwardly: \'As expected, mother loved Liam more than me. Why was I even surprised? It\'s obvious that she would favor him over me and tell him everything."
"Are you okay?" Liam asked with a concerned look on his face. "If you don\'t want me to talk about it, then it\'s okay—"
"No, no. Continue," Leon uttered. "I was just surprised to know that the son and brother of the detective is a famous secret killer."
Leon used that chance to take Liam\'s thoughts on the secret killer.
"Well, that doesn\'t matter. Even if he turns out to be my mother, I will make sure he gets the punishments he deserves," Liam asserted.
\'I wish Layla was here to listen to this. I would have proven to her that he is not the same brother we once knew,\' Leon uttered inwardly.
"So you were saying something about the terrorist attack?" Leon diverted the topic to know more about Liam.
"Uhh… yeah. So that day… well…" Liam chuckled with a distant smile on his face and said, "That day was my brother\'s birthday. My mother had got information about the possible terrorist attack, and she was supposed to investigate it. But my brother caused a tantrum, saying he wanted to celebrate his birthday at the hotel."
"And they happened to go to the same hotel which was supposed to be attacked by the terrorists?" Leon guessed although he knew everything.
Liam shrugged his shoulders and said, "Something like that."
\'Well, it\'s not my fault. Otherwise, getting stuck in that shithole for ten years would be my fault too.\'
"So why do you think that secret killer is your brother?" Leon asked with a curious yet calm look on his face.
"The case my mother was working on was confidential, and only a few people knew about it. So if that secret killer got that information, it has to be from my mother\'s case," Liam asserted.
\'Well, I did find the clues from our old house, but I did most of the research myself…\'
"Wait… so you think I am your brother and the secret killer?" Leon asked with a baffled expression on his face.
He was taking acting lessons from Anna, and Leon was beating her in return.
"Well… I will be honest and just admit it." Liam sighed and said, "Yes, I did think you were my brother, but after doing a little investigation on you, I have come to the conclusion that you aren\'t."
\'Who made him the detective?\' Leon uttered to himself. \'Even if he had done a serious investigation on me, he could have easily located our old house. And the government would have informed him that we are living in it.\'
Leon raised his brows and placed his chin and wondered, \'But why did he assume we were dead? He must be aware of the court case and the custody, right?\'
"Where do you think your brother was all this time then?" Leon asked Liam.
"I have no idea. I was told that he and my sister had died. But I guess he somehow survived," Liam stated.
"Who told you that?"
"It was the person who adopted me," Liam replied.
After that, Leon left and cleared his case from Liam\'s mind.
Leon would have stayed and asked more questions about the person who adopted Liam, but that would have made Liam suspicious of Leon again.. And that was the last thing Leon wanted.
