Chapter 291: Quickcloud Spell (Part 2)

It was easier to control the Quickcloud spell in water than in the sky. The buoyancy of the water allowed Saleen to manipulate his movements easily as if he was in the air. Moreover, the water resistance was hundreds of times stronger in the water and it actually made it easier to practice.
After practicing in the water for over half a month, Saleen could slowly control the electric current and let it disappear on the surface of the water shield and not be released. This reduced the amount of magic chords depleted tremendously. Of course, this meant that there were no attacking powers. Saleen was not anxious to practice his electric current attack as of now, an attack like that would wipe out all his magic chords. If his Quickcloud spell stopped then, he would fall from the sky and Saleen would become the first mage to fall to his death because his flying spell failed.
To use such a power, the best way was to process a magic robe and create the lightning dragon magic pattern on it. He could then use the magic nuclei inlaid on his belt to provide the magic energy to prevent his magic chords from wiping out.
It would take a long time to train the Water Flame Alchemy spell and Saleen had just tried It. He knew it was not something that could be realized, but required continuous experience to use a skill like that. Without a high leveled alchemy spell, one could forget about attacking. The magic patterns processed on the magic robe would not be able to ensure the safety of the mage.
The Quickcloud spell and current cutter, those were the basis of the spells that were keeping Saleen alive.
Saleen’s Quickcloud spell was slightly faster than the Windspeed spell and he could fly over a hundred miles every hour with it. The Quickcloud spell’s advantage over the Windspeed spell was that while using it, a twenty-meter radius cloud of mist would envelope his body. Within that radius, all sight would be blocked and pinpointing Saleen’s exact location would prove futile.
Saleen could be anywhere within the cloud of mist and under such protections, an alchemy crossbow would not be able to lock onto him and attack.
The current cutter was more useful than a normal spell. After all, the current within the calabash did not require magic chords to control and only his focus was needed. Even though the attacking speed and range of the current was not as good as a level-4 spell, extending the length of battle was the most important part for Saleen. He did not have to charge directly into the battle himself. As a mage, in the city an attacking range of within one-hundred meters, was not a disadvantage.
During this time, Nailisi was resting within the alchemical boat. She had swallowed three lightning dragon eggs and it seemed her second ability was about to evolve. She was not in the mood to do anything and could only sleep in the boat daily.
While she was sleeping, she had given up on her ultimate transformation spell and had reverted to her original form. During her growth to adulthood, she was becoming increasingly human-like. Her body structure was still longer and she had a tail. On the surface of her skin, the green magic patterns had undergone a wonderful transformation. Some light golden magic patterns had appeared and were entangled together with the green magic patterns, seemingly coming together.
As for her long tail, the growth of the light golden magic patterns were even quicker. It followed her spine all the way until the back of her head and finally into her long hair. Her hair color had turned from light golden to black, with a little golden shining from within.
Once the magic patterns had spread across her entire body she woke up. She gave a long yawn, sleeping was also energy consuming. When she was sleeping, she had used up a large amount of energy to evolve into her new abilities. The three lightning dragon eggs were not enough to sustain the evolution and Nailisi had eaten a large piece of lightning dragon meat too.
The lightning dragon had incredible abilities, but the energy within its flesh was nowhere near that of the tiago, a water type giant dragon. The tiago was a true member of the dragon clan while the lightning dragon was named so, but it was essentially a special magic beast only.
Nailisi let the winged skeleton use its death eyes, reflecting her image on a magic illusion. Seeing the golden magic pattern on her body, Nailisi was incredibly excited. She knew she had succeeded and no matter what lightning dragon ability she possessed, from now on, she was not just an imp that had to rely on her physical strength during combat.
Buzz!
A blue electric current appeared within her golden magic patterns and the winged skeleton showed a fearful expression from within the crystal.
“Oh? Nailisi released a burst of blue electric current, but realized that it could not leave the golden magic pattern on her body. It flowed on the surface of her skin. The current had not hurt her and the feeling she had when she was electrocuted for the first time did not surface. The current shot around on her body, but she could not release it to attack her enemies.
Has the evolution failed? Nailisi was anxious, she could evolve eight abilities and every ability she evolved meant one less for her. If the ability evolved was useless, she had no way of taking it back.
“Nailisi…” The winged skeleton cried out flatteringly through the crystal.
“What?!” Nailisi asked in an infuriated tone. If she had not evolved a useful ability, she would have wasted three lightning dragon eggs. She felt the pinch more than Saleen. These dragon eggs could still be hatched and if tiny lightning dragons had been born, they could become contract creatures and assist Saleen in battles. Even if they was kept in the port city to look after the area, it would be stronger than most magic beasts.
“Your ability seems to be a magic defence!” The winged skeleton had absorbed the soul of a mage and had a deeper understanding of magic. His intelligence was even higher than some mages.
“Oh?” Nailisi did not ask how the winged skeleton knew. She thought back to when she first met the lightning dragon. Saleen’s current cutter had enveloped around its body, but was directly shot down by its currents.
The magic destructive property of this current was useful too. If that was the case, it did not really matter if it could not release any electric current. Nailisi felt that if the current could actually be used to attack her enemies, it would be an enormous strain to her body too. The loss outweighed the gains. She was still the best at close combat fighting and it was not too important if she could release magic or not.
If she wanted to release magic, she could use scrolls. With this electric current defensive magic, it would greatly increase her combat abilities.
Many controlling spells were incredibly useful in combat. No matter how strong one’s abilities were, sinking into quicksand or a swamp, it would be pointless. This electric current that could not be released could make magic lose its effects too. In other words, she did not need to worry about any controlling magic.
Nailisi looked at the winged skeleton within the crystal and said with a smile, “Soldier, why don’t you experiment with me?”
The winged skeleton shook his head furiously and replied, “I cannot release any magic, go find Master.”
“Hm.” Nailisi wanted to tempt the winged skeleton out of the crystal. When he was not by Saleen’s side, he would not appear in front of Nailisi no matter what. He could sense from his intuition that Nailisi harbored malicious thoughts towards him. In the past, he would not be scared. Now that she had a blue current flowing around her, he was afraid of her.
Even though Banchajanna was almost killed by the electric current from the lightning dragon, he would not be able to take a hit from Nailisi.
“Take care of the alchemical boat then, I will go find Master.” Nailisi said as she left the alchemical boat through the teleportation portal. Only then did the winged skeleton heave a sigh of relief. “This demon, why was she with Master? She will cause trouble sooner or later.”
Nailisi experimented within the sea, she felt the current coursing through the surface of her skin as she controlled it with her will. If any magic attacked her, she could use her current to defend against it. This current used her physical strength and it did not need to be activated whenever. It was an ability that left her satisfied.
Nailisi was naked as she swam speedily in the water, almost like a miniature version of Banchajanna. With her tail at the back and her hair spreading apart in the water, the gold magic pattern on the surface of her body faded away.
The Pan’s Turtle alchemical boat was stored in the boathouse underwater. It was enormous and Saleen practiced his magic inside. He did not need to surface to breathe and this was an ability that left most mages jealous. Underwater was usually out of bounds to mages. Even those who were exceptional with water type magic could not fight for long underwater.
The number of magic beasts in the water far outnumbered those on land. If a mage wanted to hunt for a high-level magic beast, it was very hard to do so on land now. To get a high-level magic nucleus, one would either need to go to a few restricted areas on land or under the sea. In comparison, the sea was safer than some of those restricted areas. For those who were not familiar with water would have their combat abilities greatly reduced underwater.
Seeing Nailisi appear, Saleen dissipated the cloud of mist around him and motioned for her to come over.
Nailisi swam happily towards him and took out her clothes from her bracelet, putting them on. Returning to her human form, the magic patterns on her body had disappeared, but her abilities had not. The second ability had taken shape and all that was needed was for it to grow and her to perfect it.
Saleen pointed above and Nailisi nodded, following behind him they swam towards a narrow tunnel. Saleen had dug a few of them within the boathouse and this one led to an island that was crescent shaped. Under the island there was the nest of a lightning dragon that made for a decent entrance.
Saleen brought her all the way to the surface of the sea. He released a thick vapor around him that formed a black cloud of mist, floating them out of the surface of the sea and into the air.
Leaving the surface over a few meters, Nailisi screamed with joy.
“Master, your flying spell worked!”
Saleen laughed, he was genuinely excited this time. In the past, his Quickcloud spell was not perfect and he could only glide across in the air several meters above the ground, that was not flying. Now that it had finally taken shape; all the magic spells, gestures, and elemental revolution had been perfected. Only then could Saleen fly in the air, taking people along with him.
It was an ability that only a grade-6 mage would know that Saleen possessed even though he was only grade-4. It was no wonder he was elated. At this moment, he had completely separated himself from the rest of the professionals. Even a silver grand swordmaster could not fly as high as him. If he met with any danger in the future, he not only could go underwater, he could fly in the sky too.
Releasing magic in the air was an ability that was a cut above the rest.
