Chapter 432: System Vs Protag (part 4)
And most of all, the reason he was like this was because his Luck values were steadily decreasing.
Lucky Bastard!
His luck was by far the simplest and purest among all the Luck based Systems. He was just lucky in various situations.
But just like any resource, Luck too wasn’t infinite. The greater he relied upon it, the faster it would be expended.
Though, for a Luck-based System Host like him, as long as he hid in a random ditch, hiding from all contact for a long enough time, his luck values would automatically recover to optimal conditions.
This was unlike normal people who were doomed if they exhaust their innate luck.
Velcorn heard whistling sounds constantly as the number of cultivators surrounding him continued to increase in number. Moreover, they had even begun to take positions, setting up traps for him, and preventing him from escaping.
All routes on the ground were blocked and ridden with traps. And as for the air, there was Xuer, having not taken action until now.
Velcorn was able to sense her Luck value, ‘It’s vast. Is she someone important to this world, like Rhizen was in ours?’
He then gritted his teeth, ‘If only Rhizen wasn’t killed by the Coincidental Luck System because it was afraid one of the Luck-based Systems would scheme to Host him, things would have been damn easier.’
He sighed, ‘If Rhizen were to also participate, killing Compass Carburettor would be child’s play.’
“Attack!” Bunuela shouted, unleashing a stream of fire at Velcorn, destroying his defences once again. Honestly, with so many attacks directed at him, he was using up his Luck at rates faster than what he could recover.
And, since there were enough people here, they just took turns to attack him. Even if their attacks missed him, they served in reducing his luck further.
And from the start, Xuer had been observing everything in silence, having long since vaporised her doubts, wholeheartedly following Compass Carburettor’s teachings, noticing how Velcorn moved and was affected by the attacks.
‘He’s being injured more and more, not to mention his abilities getting countered solidly.’ Xuer thought.
Earth Martial Spirit cultivators with attributes of Earth, Metal, Rock, etc. had arrived at the scene, creating an arena of sorts, with Velcorn trapped in the centre.
Ramparts had been constructed around him, with the walls being strengthened and expanded in size over time, making it more and more difficult for Velcorn to escape.
But, just this alone wouldn’t have been enough to trap him. After all, thanks to the power of luck, things would conveniently fall into place for him.
But, that didn’t happen now. And the reason was simple. There was a group willing to unleash suicidal charges just to hinder him for a second.
Sleeper Cells!
They acted as the front line of defence, sacrificing their lives every time Velcorn pulled a mysterious, inconceivable stunt.
Even though a lot lost their lives every time this happened, they were able to persist, preventing Velcorn from leaving.
Thanks to their actions, he was gradually getting cornered.
Boom!
Suddenly, a portion of the rampart was destroyed by a powerful shockwave, the fragments of which resulted in the deaths of a lot of cultivators that had been caught off guard.
“Velcorn! You dumb bastard!” Holla came charging in, painting a bloody figure as she bellowed in urgency, grabbing him by the scruff of his neck as she unleashed a powerful shockwave, sending everyone flying away.
“You won’t escape!” Xuer shouted as she brought out dozens of Ice Crane Puppets, causing them to shoot out icicles at the two System Hosts, carpet bombing the entire place as the environment turned colder instantly.
Frozen winds began to blow soon after as the bodies of all the survivors trembled from the cold.
As for Holla, she was constantly blasting her shockwaves to propel the two forward while Velcorn focused on defence, defending against the carpet bombing of icicles.
“Insane power…!” Bunuela was shocked, thinking, ‘So, she wasn’t going all-out against me.’
The icicles slammed into whatever barrier Velcorn had erected, rapidly eating through them before impacting the two, riddling their bodies with countless wounds.
“Do something!” Velcorn shouted, “We’ll die at this rate. My Luck has fallen to an all-time low.”
“Useless bastard!” Holla cursed in anger, “Why are you this useless?”
She then thought, ‘My luck values hadn’t been damaged too much yet. Grisha only managed to stall me. And thanks to Fisksher, I’ve been able to protect my luck.’
Sweeeeeesh!
Suddenly, followed by a whistling sound, an Origin Essence arrow slammed into her back, teleporting ten centimetres forward right as it was about to crack into the light barrier she shielded herself with.
“Ahh!” Holla screamed in pain as the arrow pierced through her body, barely missing her heart.
“Is your Martial Spirit of any use?” Holla grunted in annoyance, already wishing to dump him and save herself. The only reason she brought him with her was that she knew escaping alone would eventually cause her death.
There were just too many enemies, ‘And there’s that unnerving gaze. It’s always on me, dammit!’
Soon, she arrived at the vicinity of the Imperial Treasury, exclaiming in surprise, “Right, in the centre of this palace, it’ll be too dangerous for others. But it’s the safest spot for us thanks to our luck. We can recover there and think of a plan of action.”
“Alright!” Velcorn nodded, unleashing a putrid mist that spread over a wide area, intending to create a barrier that increased the gap between them and their pursuers.
“Freeze!” Xuer shouted when the putrid mist turned solid immediately. The two attributes ate away at each other, preventing the mist from spreading out anymore.
The chasers ran around it, tailing the two figures that rushed into the Imperial Treasury, immediately causing the Golems within to take action, springing upon the intruders.
